How to rent a car in Dubai: a guide for tourists
Everything to know before you go: which documents to prepare, how to drive around Dubai and what to check when renting a car.

Documents for renting
To rent a car in Dubai you usually need a passport, a UAE tourist visa and an international driving licence or a national licence recognised in the UAE. The Atlantis Rental manager checks your documents in advance.
- Minimum age is 21, for supercars 25
- Driving experience of 2+ years
Traffic rules
The UAE drives on the right. All passengers must wear seat belts, and there is zero tolerance for drinking and driving. Speed limits are enforced by cameras, so always follow the road signs.
Salik tolls, parking and fuel
Toll roads in Dubai work automatically through the Salik system. Parking in the city is generally paid, via street meters or apps. The car is handed over with a full tank and should be returned the same way. Fines are paid by the renter.
Best routes
For a first drive choose Sheikh Zayed Road with its skyscraper views, the Jumeirah seafront, Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina. In the evening Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa are especially striking.
How to choose a car
Supercars suit spirited drives, executive cars suit comfort and celebrations, and SUVs suit groups. You can book with no deposit and delivery works 24/7.
